The Glass Armonica is a musical instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761. It works on the wet-finger-around-the-wine-glass-rim idea. Franklin's invention became enormously popular in his day—even Mozart and Beethoven composed music for it. But, alas, by around 1820 or so musical fashions changed and the instrument all but disappeared. Even today there are only about a dozen players worldwide.
